Cedar Lake Improvement District notes from meeting on July 10th, 2012 6:30 - 8:00 pm at the New Prague Public Library Meeting Room -
Attendees: Tom Heid, Bob Vanasek, Mike Speltz, Marie Jaeger, Lowell Mohn, Dave Nielsen and Brad Eller
Agenda Items discussed:
Bob and Tom updated the board on their meeting with Scott County Commissioners Joe Wagner and Tom Wolf to explain our proposed lake improvement project to them, the increased CLID tax levy and increasing the board membership from 5 to 7. A letter will be drafted to be sent to the Board of Commissioners requesting to be added to one of their monthly meetings.
A timetable was discussed for developing an overall Aquatic Lake Treatment Plan which would eventually be presented to the DNR for approval for expanded lake spraying/treatment. Tom advised that he would contact Melissa, Paul Nelson of SWMO, and PLM about developing a plan.
With the recent addition of Brad Eller to the board, we are now at 7 members as recommended and approved by CLID residents at the April annual meeting. Brad and Lowell Mohn are at large until the county approves our request to move from 5 to 7.
Annual picnic - At the annual meeting, the possibility of holding at annual picnic at Cedar Lake Farms was discussed. In the interim, the Three Rivers Park organization mailed out an invitation to a mid-summer festival at Cedar Lake Farm to be held on July 21. Tom was going to check with Three Rivers personal to see if they planned to make this an annual event. If that is the case, then the board would not recommend an annual CLID picnic since it would be a duplication of effort.
Carp treatment update - Mike followed up on fisherman for carp seining. He advised that the alternative commercial fisherman had agreed to fish Cedar Lake after the DNR-assigned fisherman for this lake declined to remove the carp. Harvest could possibly occur this fall and then again this winter. Mike was going to ask the fisherman to attend our next meeting to discuss the process.
Another option still under consideration could be a carp fishing tournament. Mike is going to contact a Minnesota based Carp Fishing Club to see if they can provide guidance or suggestions on how to set up and promote a carp fishing tournament. Marie was going to check with a local carp-fishing resident to learn if he has any experience or interest in such a tournament.
Website - As had been previously discussed and agreed upon, the CLID website needs to be made operational by late summer/early fall. The website would be utilized to keep property owners informed on CLID matters including monthly meetings, the annual meeting, and lake projects. After much discussion the board agreed to hire Market Crosshairs, a web designing firm. The board also approved the purchase of the same web address but with .com instead of .org. Marie agreed to be CLID's point person to work with Market Crosshairs on developing the content for the site with the goal to have it ready for board approval at the August meeting. Brad volunteered to create a Facebook page for the CLID once the website was operational as well.
It was also agreed the following committees will be chaired by the following members:
Social media - Brad Eller
Membership (mailings) - Lowell
Liaison with county commissioners - Bob
Liaison with SWMO - Tom Heid
Carp Seining - Mike
Website - Marie
Next board meeting is August 28th at 6:30 p.m. in the small library conference room.
