Cedar Lake Improvement District (CLID) Meeting Minutesheld on January 15,20246:30-8:00 pmat the New Prague Public Library.
Attendees: Tim Schroeder, Paul Hoyt, Dave Nielsen, Amy Gallagher, Ted Schnaare and John Tuschner
Agenda:
Treasurer’s report
3rd Party Plant Survey
Update on discussions with 3 Rivers Park District on funding assistance
Carp Update
Amy provided the treasurer’s report for the month. We received the second levy payment from Scott County and had 3 outgoing payments to WSB for the carp project which were all planned for and expected.
Amy also provided the completed plant survey summary report back from Blue Water Science. In summary the native plant growth has been minimal from survey years prior. The results will be posted on the website for review.
Tim provided an update on his correspondence with 3 Rivers Park System regarding cost sharing on the CLID’s lake improvement projects originally started by Dave. Tim has been in touch with and had good dialogue with Brian Vlach regarding how we can work together more closely together. Brian has asked for a lot of information regarding our current plan for Cedar Lake and the funds required to maintain it. Tim is connecting again with Brian in the coming weeks for further information gathering and to determine if there is an opportunity to work together more closely.
Tim also brought up the unprecedented warm weather we had at the end of 2023 and beginning of 2024. The lake opened back up with this weather on December 23, 2023 and didn’t freeze again until January 4, 2024. After further discussion the entire board agreed we were fortunate we hadn’t attempted to treat the lake prior to it freezing in the fall as it would have not been a successful outcome with the lake opening up again as it did at the end of the year.
Paul Hoyt provided an update on the WSB Carp project. As mentioned on prior meeting notes WSB’s fall seining was one of the biggest successes that has ever occurred on Cedar Lake. Approximately 5500 pounds of carp were caught and removed from the lake on October 25, 2023. Total number of fish were around 700 with average weight of 8 pounds but some exceeding 30 pounds. We will post pictures on the website. Seining in spring is still in the plan as well. WSB believes there are approximately 27,000 carp total in Cedar Lake so much more work to be done in this area.
The meeting adjourned via motion from Paul Hoyt and seconded by Dave. The next meeting is set for February 5th 2024 at 6:30 pm at the New Prague Public Library.
