Minutes of Board Meetings
Attendees: Paul Hoyt, Dave Nielsen, Amy Gallegher, Ted Schnaare and guest Billy Bartusek from the New Prague Sportsman’s club
Agenda:
Treasurer’s report
Carp Update
Upcoming meeting with PLM, SCWMO and the DNR
3rd Party Plant Survey
Amy provided the treasurer’s report for the month and there were no expenses to report.
Paul Hoyt provided an update on the WSB Carp project. WSB’s fall seining was one of the biggest successes that has ever occurred on Cedar Lake. Approximately 5500 pounds of carp were caught and removed from the lake on October 25, 2023. Total number of fish were around 700 with average weight of 8 pounds but some exceeding 30 pounds. We will post pictures on the website. Seining in spring is still in the plan as well.
Paul also provided an update on the meeting with Scott County SWMO and the DNR. The meeting occurred via Zoom on October 24th to discuss and review the lake treatment and how everyone felt it performed this summer based on lake conditions. As mentioned in prior minutes sentiment was overall very positive and there were few complaints that anyone was aware of. The meeting also included discussion on costs for follow-up treatment as they were higher this year than in years past. PLM advised that these added costs were due wet spring and influx of water which diluted the initial treatment. Sonar was approved by all for treatment again next year in the spring.
The next area of conversation focused on 3 Rivers Park District and all of the investments they were making in Cedar Lake Farm Park. The conversation then turned to what funding they might have available to also assist in lake treatments. Dave volunteered to reach out to them to see if they could help at all moving forward and will report back when he has their response,
The meeting adjourned via motion from Paul Hoyt and seconded by Amy. The next meeting is set for January 8th at 6:30 pm at the New Prague Public Library.
